I have been out a lot this year with a strep infection. When I have a sub, students pretty much work on skills the sub can easily handle (mainly keyboarding skills). Work on projects stop until I return. After my 8th day out this year, I decided I needed to do something to move students along on the projects they had started. I found a video capture program (HyperCAM http://www.hyperionics.com/hc/index.asp) that captures what I do on the computer and allows me to record audio at the same time. At the time me 4th grade class was learning to create graphs using MS Excel. To create a video I started the HyperCAM program then went through the steps of creating a graph while narrating what I was doing. This created a video lesson that explained the skill to both students and sub.
